Leuven Report

Commuting by Motorcycle: Impact Analysis [1]

Precis

This is the report on a study carried out in Belgium in 2011. The study looked at the impact on traffic that would result from a modal shift from cars to powered two wheelers. The major conclusions from the report were that a modal shift from cars to powered two wheelers of 10% would result in a 40% reduction in congestion for all road users. The emission of air pollutants and CO2 would also be reduced. The study showed a 7.5% reduction in CO2, 5.5% reduction in NOx, 4% reduction in exhaust particulate matter and 16% reduction in non-exhaust (brake and tyre wear) particulate matter.
