Evaluation of Journey Time and Emissions of PTWs in Bus Lanes

Transport for London research into the impact of allowing PTW access to bus lanes [1]

Precis

Research conducted by TfL showing the positive benefits of allowing motorcycle access to bus lanes. The report concludes the following benefits to allowing PTW access to bus lanes:

• PTW journey time savings of approximately 10.5% when comparing PTWs in bus lanes with PTWs in general traffic lanes;

• Reductions in PTW Carbon Dioxide emissions;

• Reductions in PTW Oxides of Nitrogen emissions;

• Reductions in all other PTW emissions including Carbon Monoxide, Total Hydrocarbons and Benzene; and

• Lower PTW fuel consumption.
